The first serial number was S 811,120 and the last was S 999,999. Which means that 188,879 S&W M&Ps were manufactured with the “S” prefix. In 1953 Browning added an alpha prefix to the serial number to differentiate between Lightweight and Standardweight guns. Your pistol dates to 1974-1975 and probably right in the middle of that date range. Serial numbers from A235001 thru A265000 were produced in that dare range.
